The traditional methods of horoscope matching stop
at 'Guna'
and 'Kuja-dosha'
matching. In the more complex world of today, we
need to delve more deeply in the intricacies of
the horoscopes of the boy and the girl. The 'Guna'
consideration ('Ashtkoot'
matching) is based on comparing only the Moons
of the prospective bride and groom. The other 8
planets have absolutely no say in this
consideration. The Moon may be a very important
planet, but it is obviously not everything.
In our opinion,
Ashtakoot is a poor indicator of compatibility in
the current age. The reasoning is that, the
Ashtakoot System is tilted against the females.
The criteria that makes the match compatible are
all against the interest of the current female
generation. E.g. if the female is intellectually
weaker than the male, you get higher
compatibility, if the female is capable of
producing more children, the compatibility score
is higher, if the female is temperamentally cooler
than the male, the score is higher. Therefore, a
holistic system of match making is highly
desirable. This report fills this lacunae.

In the concept
of 'Sudarshan Chakra', the horoscope is
supposed to stand on a tripod made of the
Ascendant, the Moon and the Sun. Every
embodied being is a body/ mind/ spirit
composite. The ascendant represents the
physical body; the Moon represents the mind
(astral or subtle body) and the Sun
represents the casual body (spirit or 'atma').
Thus any consideration based on just the
Moon precludes the body and spirit component
of the individual. When two people enter
into matrimony they bring all their body/
mind/ spirit together and not just the mind
component alone. Therefore, any
consideration that involves only the sign
and Nakshatra position of the two Moons is
necessarily incomplete. However, it is
incumbent upon us to recognize its special
importance and award it a greater weightage,
instead of the equal weightage, among the
nine planets.
Several learned
Jyotish scholars have started applying new
Jyotish techniques to find the links between
the two charts. One such technique is to
check the individual horoscopes first and
then juxtapose one over the other. There has
to be a reason why two people enter into a
close relationship such as matrimony. There
must exist some linkages between the
important pillars of their charts, e.g.,
Ascendant, Moon, Sun and Venus. If these
linkages are favourable, the match is
harmonious. Among several possible
combinations of links (mutual or
unilateral), the following four links are
considered most important 'Primary and
mutual' links: |
|
1. |
Ascendant to
Ascendant |
2. |
Moon to Moon |
3. |
Sun to Sun |
4. |
