Yes,
it is possible. Values for any Vjyotish
index can be imported to MS-Excel very
easily. This way, you can also analyze Vjyotish index data with
sophisticated statistical and analytical
tools provided in programs like 'MS-Excel'.
When
you choose a particular Vjyotish
index from menu and click "DiskFile"
button, the
index data is simultaneously saved to a FoxPro/dBase database file (file
extension .dbf) also. While
your chosen Vjyotish index is visible on the
computer screen, the
following eight push buttons will also be
present at
the bottom of your screen:
Analyze |
DiskFile |
Prev |
Next |
Change
Date |
Stop |
Mainmenu |
Help |
Push the
button “Diskfile”
at the bottom row of your screen.
You’ll find the Vjyotish index continuously
running on your monitor, without any stop, for a while and the
selected Vjyotish index will be saved to a
text file. Simultaneously,
the index values will also be saved to a FoxPro/dBase
database file,
named "Vjtemp.dbf"
in your C:\Vjyotish\ folder.
This
Vjyotish generated data can
now be imported by most of the popular programs, including
Microsoft-Excel.
A
notepad window will
automatically open-up showing you the
printable version of index. You can
close this Notepad window, if you do not
want print it.
Opening
the "Vjtemp.dbf"
in Microsoft-Excel |
* |
Run Microsoft-Excel
|
* |
CLICK File --> Open |
*
|
Choose C:\Vjyotish\ folder through 'Look
in' dialogue-box (seen at
the top edge of Excel-window titled
"Open"). |
*
|
Choose
"dBase Files"
through 'Files of
type' dialogue box (seen
at the bottom edge of Excel-window
titled "Open"). |
*
|
With
this, you will be looking at several files with
'.dbf'
extension in C:\Vjyotish\ folder.
One of these files will be "vjtemp.dbf". |
* |
Select file 'vjtemp.dbf' and double click it to open
in MS-Excel. |
* |
CLICK File --> Save
As |
*
|
Choose
a folder (at Save
in
dialogue box), where you wish to
save this file in .xls format
(for example: - \Test\ folder). |
*
|
At
File
name
dialogue box, write some file name,
which you can remember (for example vjindex1). |
*
|
Choose
"Microsoft
Excel Workbook" through 'Save as type'
dialogue box (seen at the bottom
edge of Excel-window titled
"Save As"). |
*
|
Now,
push the button "Save".
It will save the "vjtemp.dbf"
as "vjindex1.xls". |
*
|
If
you wish to import another Vjyotish
index data, first of all, close all
open files in MS-Excel. Run Vjyotish
(or Stock-Compass) again. Repeat the
same procedure, as mentioned above.
Save "vjtemp.dbf"
by a different name each time
("vjindex1.xls",
"vjindex2.xls",
"vjindex3.xls"
etc.). |
|
. |
Some
points to be noted: |
1.
|
The
Vjyotish index values are saved to "Vjtemp.dbf"
only when you choose 'Disk file'
option. It is not saved when you opt
to view an index on your screen
only. |
2.
|
Remember
to exit program (Vjyotish/Stock
Compass etc.) before attempting
to open this file (C:\Vjyotish\VJTemp.dbf)
in MS-Excel. Otherwise, you may get
an error message -"File access
denied". |
3.
|
Same
way, before re-starting Vjyotish /
Stock-Compass (or, any of our other
programs) do not forget to close
"Vjtemp.dbf". For example,
if you have opened "Vjtemp.dbf"
in MS-Excel, close this file in
MS-Excel before re-starting
Vjyotish. If 'VJTemp.dbf' remains
opened by any other program (like
MS-Exel), you will get an error
message 'File access denied'. |
4.
|
Remember
that the 'Vjtemp.dbf' is
zapped (emptied) each time you push the
button “Diskfile”
at the bottom row of your screen. Therefore,
do not push this button for any
other Vjyotish index till you have
imported the data of required index
to any other file (say - "vjindex1.xls").
|
5.
|
However,
you can view any number of indexes
on screen without disturbing the
saved data of desired index. |
